Samsung Display announced on the 19th that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the 16th (local time) to jointly promote Dolby Vision, Dolby's premium high dynamic range (HDR) video technology, along with optimized automotive organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays.
Samsung Display explained that with this agreement, if automobile manufacturers adopt Samsung OLED for Dolby Vision, the evaluation certification process will be simplified, leading to a significant reduction in evaluation time.
Choi Yong-seok, executive director of sales at Samsung Display, said, “Through our collaboration with Dolby, Samsung will solidify its technology leadership in the automotive display market,” adding, “We will set a new standard for automotive display quality and provide the best driving experience for drivers and passengers.”
Andre Erett, senior director of the automotive institutional sector at Dolby Laboratories, noted, “Automobiles have transformed from mere means of transportation into another space where passengers can enjoy various forms of entertainment,” and added, “I am very pleased that the industry-leading OLED completed with Samsung Display's technology and Dolby Vision, which provides vibrant visuals, can deliver an immersive in-vehicle entertainment experience to more customers.”
Samsung Display plans to set up a next-generation automotive OLED experience space at CES 2025, the world's largest information technology (IT) and consumer electronics exhibition, to be held in Las Vegas, U.S., in January next year.
