Kakao Entertainment announced on the 19th that the Disney+ original series "The Lighting Store" has succeeded in global box office, garnering significant attention alongside its original webtoon, Kakao Webtoon "The Lighting Store", and other works within the Kangfull universe.
Since the release of episodes 5 and 6 of "The Lighting Store" on Disney+ from the 11th to the 15th, the original webtoon's view count has increased 187 times, and revenue has surged 159 times. This indicates that despite the original work having concluded in 2011, it is regaining popularity due to the drama's airing. Additionally, another work from the Kangfull universe, "Moving," has also seen its view count double and revenue triple, continuing the trend of viewers binge-watching the original.
"The Lighting Store" explores the boundary between life and death, blending mystery and humanism; it is an early work within the representative worldview of Kangfull. The Disney+ original series has received favorable reviews both domestically and internationally due to its profound narrative and the cast's passionate performances, concluding on the 18th with a grand finale.
Meanwhile, another popular work based on Kakao Entertainment's intellectual property, the MBC drama "The Phone That You Are Calling Now," has also seen a sharp increase in popularity for its original web novel and webtoon adaptation after airing. The web novel recorded a 5-fold increase in views and a 15-fold increase in revenue, while the webtoon also experienced a 4-fold rise in views and a 7-fold increase in revenue.
A Kakao Entertainment official noted, "Starting with 'Seonjae Up Go Tiu', followed by 'The Lighting Store' and 'The Phone That You Are Calling Now', Kakao Entertainment's IP has been adapted into video and achieved successful results, and we plan to continuously invest to present high-quality works based on competitive IP next year."
