In October, the search function of ChatGPT, which was previously available only to paid users, has been expanded to all users.
OpenAI noted that starting from the 16th (local time), all users logged into their ChatGPT accounts can use the search function. Previously, only paid subscribers, such as those with ChatGPT Plus, could use this feature, but it has been fully opened up through mobile apps and websites after a month and a half.
This move is expected to intensify competition with Google, which holds a 90% market share in the global online search market. ChatGPT is the most widely used AI model worldwide, with weekly active users reaching 250 million and growing rapidly.
OpenAI has upgraded the ChatGPT search function so that when users search for restaurants or attractions on mobile, it provides images, ratings, operating hours, and even a route map. Additionally, when searching specific websites like hotel booking sites, relevant links are prioritized to enhance information access speed.
Voice search has also become possible. However, the 'advanced voice mode' is available only to paid subscribers, such as those with ChatGPT Plus.
With the expansion of ChatGPT's search function enhancing AI-based search services, attention is focused on whether there will be changes in the existing Google search market landscape.
