Unity announced on the 13th that it would begin supporting the next-generation XR platform 'Android XR' experimental platform, which was unveiled through a partnership with Google.
Unity developers can now start creating immersive experiences for the Android XR platform through the 'Public Experimental Release' of 'Unity 6'. This will enable content development for devices that will be launched in the future, and the company expects to provide users with a more comfortable and superior experience through Unity's support for the Android XR platform, related technical materials, and optimizations.
This support includes various Unity XR tools, such as hand and eye tracking, occlusion, foveated rendering, and composite layers. This makes it possible to create content utilizing the unique advantages of Android XR. Additionally, the platform provides functionality that allows games or apps to be ported more easily if it adopts the OpenXR standard.
