A permanent esports stadium that can host cultural and artistic performances and exhibitions will open in Asan, South Chungcheong Province, in 2026.
According to South Chungcheong Province on the 13th, the Chungnam Information & Culture Industry Promotion Agency held a groundbreaking ceremony for the 'Chungnam esports permanent stadium' that day in Baebang-eup, Asan. The stadium will be built over a land area of 5,400 square meters (with a building area of 3,849 square meters) near the Cheonan-Asan KTX station in Baebang-eup, Asan, with one basement level and three above-ground levels. The main arena will have 429 seats, while the auxiliary arena will accommodate 74 seats.
This will be the fifth esports stadium built in the country, but since this is the first new construction, the province noted it will have the best and latest facilities. In addition to the main and auxiliary arenas, the stadium will feature a training studio, players' waiting room, and broadcast room. A total of 29.5 billion won will be invested by March 2026.
Once the stadium is completed, the province plans to host its own esports tournaments and attract international events. Additionally, it intends to open an esports academy and bring in cultural and artistic performances and exhibitions, providing cultural experiences to residents while also increasing revenue.
On the same day, the province signed a business agreement with the Chungnam Information & Culture Industry Promotion Agency and the Korea esports Association to promote esports. The three institutions will work to hold youth and college leagues, boost related clubs, and strive to establish professional teams as well. They will also collaborate to discover new esports events and promote underrated events.
Kim Tae-heum, governor of South Chungcheong Province, said, “We will spare no support for the development of the esports industry so that South Chungcheong and Asan can become a mecca of esports and the next Faker and third Faker can emerge.”
