Ericsson announced on the 13th that it would present seven new 5G advanced software solutions that enable telecommunications operators to build high-performance programmable networks. A high-performance programmable network refers to a network that significantly enhances performance and provides better consolidation.
The seven new software solutions launched by Ericsson include real-time artificial intelligence (AI)-based automation, outdoor positioning, mission-critical services, differentiated consolidation of RAN, energy efficiency and management, premium network performance, and device battery performance.
This software utilizes AI-based and service-aware RAN and intent-based network technology. The software processes data in real-time using AI-based RAN, makes decisions, and responds instantly to changing consolidation demands with service-aware RAN, providing seamless services. Additionally, through intent-based networks, the software autonomously takes actions based on the telecommunications operators' business objectives and optimizes network operations.
Mårten Lerne, head of Ericsson Network, noted, "Global telecommunications operators can implement high-performance programmable networks with the newly released Ericsson 5G advanced software and reach their business objectives more quickly. Currently, about 50% of the world's mobile 5G traffic, excluding China, is transmitted through the networks provided by Ericsson, thus the implementation of high-performance programmable networks will open new horizons for the global industry and serve as a foundation for innovative applications and services that can improve people's lives."
Ericsson's new 5G advanced software will be released as subscription-based software from the third quarter of 2024 to the first quarter of 2025 and will be compatible with Open RAN, cloud RAN, and RAN for specific purposes. It is also based on previously released 5G advanced features such as critical Internet of Things (IoT) and Ericsson RedCap (Reduced Capability).
