Kim Byung-hoon, the Vice President and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of LG Electronics, will receive the 34th Sadeong Technology Award from the Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers on Nov. 11.
The Sadeong Technology Award was established by the late Kim Jeong-sik, founder of the Sadeong Science Culture Foundation, to honor individuals who have made significant achievements in the advancement of scholarship and technology in the field of electrical engineering. It is recognized as a prestigious award in the domestic electronics, information, and communication sectors.
Kim Byung-hoon, the CTO, has been selected as this year's awardee for leading the development of next-generation technologies and standards, securing patents, and contributing to enhancing national technological competitiveness through R&D innovation while holding a world-class level of intellectual property.
Kim is regarded as a global technology leader who has researched and developed various ICT technology fields over the past 30 years. After serving as a semiconductor technology development expert at corporations such as GCT Semiconductor and Qualcomm, he joined LG Electronics in 2008, leading pioneering technology research in semiconductor technology development and fields such as communications and IoT.
Since 2021, he has been leading the CTO division as the Chief Technology Officer overseeing research and development at LG Electronics, conducting pioneering research and development in various future technologies, including 5G, 6G communications, artificial intelligence (AI), and robotics, while actively engaging in standard activities.
Kim Byung-hoon has personally invented various core communication standard technologies and has filed over 3,000 patents domestically and internationally, earning high recognition as an individual inventor.
Kim was recognized for his contributions to national industrial development and received the Gold Tower Industry Medal, the highest award, at the 59th Invention Day event in May. Previously, in 2020, he was also selected as a Fellow by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), awarded only to the top 0.1% of experts in the fields of electrical, electronic, computer, and communications, which has over 400,000 members from more than 160 countries.
