SK Telecom has decided to terminate its lost phone tracking service starting in February next year. It has been about 12 years since the service was first introduced in May 2013. The decrease in users of the lost phone tracking service is analyzed to be influenced by smartphone manufacturers and Google starting to provide similar services.
SK Telecom (CEO Yoo Young-sang) announced the details on its official website on the 9th. New subscriptions and conversions for the lost phone tracking service will be halted as of Jan. 9 next year. Existing subscribers will be able to use the lost phone tracking service until the termination date. After that, the additional service will be discontinued.
SK Telecom's lost phone tracking service helps users locate their mobile phones when lost. When using the service, a message such as 'This phone has been reported lost, please help find its owner' is displayed on the phone's home screen. Additionally, a button for 'Contacting the phone's owner' is activated, while other functions may be switched to a locked state.
