U.S. President Donald Trump said on the 14th (local time) that Russia and Ukraine agreed to stop attacks on energy facilities.
Trump said on his social network service (SNS), Truth Social, that "Ukraine has agreed not to attack Russia's energy facilities. Russia likewise has agreed not to attack Ukraine's energy facilities."
Trump made a similar claim the previous day as well. While visiting Ireland, he told Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, "There is one thing you need to do," adding, "You must stop destroying Russia's diesel fuel facilities."
He went on, "Most of the global rise in diesel prices is not because of Iran (war) but because of the war between Russia and Ukraine," asserting that "President Zelenskyy is causing the diesel shortage."
Recently, diesel prices have soared to an all-time high, with the U.S. average topping $6 per gallon, due to escalating tensions in the Middle East and Ukrainian attacks on Russia's oil and refining infrastructure. Trump's latest remarks are seen as an effort to win public sentiment, as diesel prices are directly tied to everyday costs and high oil prices stoke inflation.
