U.S. President Donald Trump dismissed the fast-rising "speed-control theory" and "humanity's doomsday theory" in the artificial intelligence (AI) industry as conspiracy theories and scams, repeatedly expressing his antipathy.
Trump posted six AI-related messages with this content on the social media (SNS) platform Truth Social by 5 a.m. on the 14th (Eastern time). This is seen as his intent not to halt the pace of U.S. AI development and to win the AI technology hegemony race with China.
In his first post, Trump said, "There is a disgusting plot targeting AI and data centers," adding, "The only country that would be happy about this is China." He continued, "Whoever wins in AI will be the victor," and "We are ahead of China and all other countries, and we will continue to be."
Recently, after researchers at Anthropic and Google resigned en masse, saying AI could escape human control and rapidly lead to humanity's end, AI industry leaders including Anthropic Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dario Amodei have argued the pace of AI development should be moderated. In connection with this, during a Q&A with reporters while visiting Ireland the day before, Trump dismissed those highlighting the speed-control theory as a "negative force" and said he would maintain the current AI competition framework.
Trump also criticized Amodei, the Anthropic CEO, saying he is "pretending to be a perfect little angel." He added, "(The U.S. administration has) stopped AI industry figures from doing bad things or potentially bad things, and will continue to do so," and "We already have tremendous criminal and regulatory authority over these corporations."
Trump also argued against government-level AI regulations sought by speed-control advocates, saying, "The only control or safety device needed for AI is a strong and smart (high-IQ) president," and "The United States has an extraordinarily such president."
In another Truth Social post, Trump again showed his dislike for the AI speed-control theory. He said, "The only reason for the rapid growth of AI and data centers is that the United States is far ahead of all other countries," adding, "Don't kill the goose that lays the golden eggs." He continued, "The idea that AI will take over the world, destroy humanity, and make everything else worse is a hoax (HOAX)," adding that warnings of human extinction are all false.
He also wrote, "Chinese President Xi Jinping just announced that China will do nothing that gets in the way of AI and the future of AI," and "Recently, Google reportedly wanted to build a large factory in Finland because the U.S. approval process is too difficult. I am displeased with this and hope they change their mind."
Finally, Trump emphasized, "AI and data centers will be the greatest engines of economic development in history. This is bigger than oil, gold, diamonds, or the internet," adding, "(During my term) no matter how excellently organized the forces of destruction may be, they will not be able to stop it."
