As a high-level Iran–Gulf states meeting set to discuss the Strait of Hormuz issue was postponed at the last minute, another explosion was heard near the strait.
On the 14th (local time), Reuters said Iran's state media reported that several unexplained explosions were heard in the southern Sirik area that day. Specific circumstances or any damage have not yet been confirmed.
The development came right after the foreign ministers' meeting between Iran and the Gulf states was postponed. Around 11 p.m. the previous day, Oman Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi said on X (formerly Twitter), "The regional meeting scheduled to be held in Salalah tomorrow (the 14th) has been postponed to reach a consensus."
Iran had initially planned to hold a meeting that day with the Gulf states to discuss safe shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz and other issues. However, after the Foreign Ministry's announcement of the meeting on the 11th, Bahrain declared it would not attend, and there were indications that Saudi Arabia's participation was uncertain as it faced offensives by Yemen's Houthi rebels.
An Iranian Foreign Ministry official told state-run IRNA that the originally scheduled talks were postponed by a joint decision of Oman and Iran. The official added that there were requests from some regional countries. Iran will set an appropriate time to hold the talks after consultations with Oman.
