Badr Al-Busaidi, Oman's foreign minister, said, "The regional meeting that was scheduled to be held in Salalah tomorrow has been postponed to reach a consensus."
Minister Al-Busaidi said on the 13th (local time) at around 11 p.m. on X (formerly Twitter), "We will continue our efforts to facilitate dialogue that supports regional stability and sustained cooperation." However, there was no mention of when the meeting would be held again.
AFP reported that Iran's Fars News said the decision to postpone was made jointly by the Iranian and Omani governments. Fars News, citing an Iranian foreign ministry official, reported that the meeting was postponed at the request of some regional countries.
On the 11th, Iran's foreign ministry announced its plan for a meeting with Gulf countries in a note, saying, "We plan to discuss and exchange opinions on the results of the Iran-Oman talks regarding the designation of safe routes for commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, along with regional issues." But the next day, Bahrain declared it would not participate, noting Iran's attacks on Gulf region infrastructure and saying, "We will not take part in any meeting in which Iran participates until diplomatic relations with Iran are restored."
Earlier that day, Iran's foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, said in an interview with Al-Araby Al-Jadeed (The New Arab), an Arab outlet based in the United Kingdom, that seven countries, including Gulf states except Bahrain, would attend this meeting, effectively confirming it would be held. He said, "The most important agenda item at the meeting is the new maritime route for the Strait of Hormuz," adding that Iran and Oman would explain to participating countries their agreement to open a new route in the Strait of Hormuz and its details.
