U.S. President Donald Trump on the 11th (local time), marking the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, said it was "a vast and terrible moment of evil," adding, "We will never forget. That is why we fight today."
In a speech at the Pentagon near Washington, D.C., at a ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, President Trump said, "Today we reaffirm the sacred pledge we made in our own names 25 years ago," and stated accordingly.
He said, "We have no choice. There is only victory," adding, "We fight fiercely. We fight to win."
The remarks are seen as emphasizing the legitimacy of the war and the will to continue it as the war with Iran, which began in Feb., has entered its seventh month.
Trump said, "Over the past 25 years, our finest and bravest have defended the United States, and today we pay tribute to all U.S. service members who joined the war on terror," adding, "We pay tribute to first responders and law enforcement officers, and we love them."
He also said, "We pay tribute to the service members who are now committed to ensuring that Iran, the world's largest state sponsor of terrorism, never possesses nuclear weapons."
He added, "Thanks to that very spirit, when future generations come here 25, 100, and 250 years from now, they will stand in a nation that is free and unbowed against evil, and every generation will honor the heroes of Sept. 11, 2001."
