A plane carrying Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy nearly came under drone attack as it was about to take off from Moldova, the Norway prime minister said.
According to Reuters on the 9th (local time), Norway Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store told Norway public broadcaster NRK that "the plane carrying President Zelenskyy and heading to Norway nearly came under a drone attack as it was about to take off from Moldova the day before."
He added, "This is the reality he faces." However, he did not mention the source of the information or how close the drone came to Zelenskyy's plane at the time.
Zelenskyy was en route from Moldova to Oslo the day before to attend the funeral of Norway King Harald V, who died at 89 on the 28th of last month. However, on the same day, two Russia-launched drones violated Moldova's airspace, temporarily halting flight operations at Chisinau International Airport in Moldova.
Reuters reported that one of the drones that violated Moldova's airspace crashed into a field and caused a fire, while the other continued flying and entered Romania's airspace.
However, the Ukraine presidential office said the claim that Zelenskyy was in actual danger was exaggerated. According to AFP, an official at the Ukraine presidential office said that "an alert was issued in Moldova when Russian drones entered the airspace of Moldova and Romania," but added that the claim Zelenskyy was actually in danger was "exaggerated."
