As military clashes between the United States and Iran over passage through the Strait of Hormuz escalate, Iran attacked a U.S. military base in Kuwait.
The Kuwaiti military said on the 3rd (local time) on X (formerly Twitter) that "Kuwait's air defense is currently responding to hostile missile and drone attacks resulting from Iran's heinous invasion."
AFP, citing Iranian state TV, reported that Iran had targeted a U.S. military base in Kuwait for attack. Iranian state TV claimed the attack was "in response to the United States' crimes against the Iranian people."
The United States and Iran have continued armed clashes over passage through the Strait of Hormuz since on the 30th.
On the 30th, the U.S. military struck two rocket launchers for laying mines belonging to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran responded by firing missiles at two U.S. Air Force bases in Jordan.
On the 1st, the U.S. military also carried out airstrikes targeting IRGC facilities. Under the "tanker-for-tanker" strategy approved by President Donald Trump, it also reportedly attacked two Iranian government-owned oil tankers.
The IRGC claimed it shot down a U.S. MQ-9 attack drone. It added that it attacked a U.S. military base in Jordan with ballistic missiles and also struck U.S. forces stationed in Erbil, the Kurdish autonomous region of Iraq.
The Iranian military widened the scope of its attacks to U.S. military bases in the Gulf region, including Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Kuwait.
In a statement, the Iranian military said "dozens of attack drones struck the U.S. radar systems and positions at the UAE's Al Dhafra and Al Minhad bases," and "we also targeted the U.S. radar facilities and troop assembly points at Bahrain's Shaikh Isa Air Base."
Iran claimed that during the U.S. airstrikes on the 1st, a bomb fell on a private home where a wedding was taking place, causing large-scale civilian casualties. Iran labeled this a war crime and warned it would respond forcefully with a new strategy.
