As the United States on the 1st (local time) struck Iran again in retaliation for Iran's attack on a U.S. military base in Jordan, U.S. President Donald Trump warned that if Iran carries out additional retaliation, it will face a much stronger response.
On this day, President Trump said on the social media (SNS) platform Truth Social, "The United States is, right now, striking Iranian targets near the Strait of Hormuz," adding, "This strike is large-scale and powerful." He went on, "It is retaliation for Iran's failed attempt to add naval mines to a strait that currently has no mines at all, and for the eight-missile attack on the U.S. base in Jordan, all of which were successfully intercepted."
He added, "If Iran, a failed state, retaliates against this very justified strike, it will be hit with a far more powerful and higher-level strike," warning, "But that will not be the biggest strike. The biggest strike is still on standby, and when that strike is over, Iran will be left with almost no trace."
Earlier, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees military operations against Iran, said on X (formerly Twitter) on this day, "As of noon Eastern time, we began strikes on Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targets," adding, "This is in response to the IRGC's attempt to attack civilian vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and U.S. service members deployed in the region."
On the 30th of last month, the U.S. military said it had detected signs that the IRGC was attempting to launch a missile loaded with naval mines into the Strait of Hormuz and struck Iran's Larak Island. Iran immediately fired ballistic missiles at a U.S. base in Jordan, breaking the roughly monthlong lull in hostilities between the two sides.
President Trump had foreshadowed retaliation against Iran in a call with a Fox News reporter the previous day. In an interview with Fox News on this day, he also said, "Today's airstrikes were very powerful," threatening, "If a third strike is carried out, Iran will be completely annihilated as a nation."
It was not disclosed what specific facilities the U.S. military struck on this day. However, President Trump said the targets included "many radar facilities." He said, "Iran tried to rebuild its radar systems, but the United States was watching and carried out airstrikes before construction was completed."
