The victim killed in a knife rampage at Times Square, a major tourist attraction in New York, was confirmed to be a vice president at Bank of America (BoA).
According to the New York Police Department (NYPD) on the 1st (local time), Erin Piacenti, 32, a New Jersey resident, died after being stabbed in the abdomen in a knife attack around 4:20 p.m. the previous day near Seventh Avenue and West 42nd Street by Times Square in Manhattan. Piacenti was serving as a vice president in BoA's global corporations and investment banking institutional sector.
A BoA Spokesperson said, "We are shocked and deeply saddened by our colleague's tragic death," and added, "We extend our condolences to the bereaved family and all who loved them."
A 68-year-old man who was attacked alongside her is being treated at Bellevue Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
Police identified the suspect as Pamela Cisneros, 49. According to police, Cisneros approached officers wielding two large blades, and officers deployed a Taser and then opened fire. Cisneros was taken to a hospital but died.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch described the incident as a "random and senseless attack" that appeared to have no clear motive.
