The United States resumed military strikes against Iran after about a month.
On the 30th, local time, according to Reuters and others, the U.S. military carried out airstrikes on two Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) rocket launchers on Larak Island in Iran. A U.S. military official said the attack was launched after signs were detected that the IRGC was preparing to fire rockets to drop naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran's semi-official Fars News Agency also reported that explosions were heard near Larak Island that day and that the cause of the blasts had not been confirmed. The semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported that the attack was a U.S. drone strike.
The U.S. strike against Iran came about a month after military operations were halted late last month on the orders of President Donald Trump. Since then, the Trump administration has focused on large-scale economic sanctions to choke off the Iranian regime's funding instead of military action.
Iran warned of strong retaliation for the U.S. attack. The IRGC said in a statement, "The enemy's act of terrorism targeting Larak Island will face a strong response, and the aggressors will be punished," adding, "Because of their brazen act of aggression, Larak Island was attacked, and several of our soldiers and compatriots were killed or injured."
