The Doosan Enerbility site manager who was isolated at the scene during the massive floods in Nepal and escaped said on the 30th (local time) that "as someone who knows the site conditions better than anyone, I will stay here and support the search operation as much as possible."
A, a Korean site manager with Doosan Enerbility who was in charge of hydropower plant construction work in Nepal, met Korean reporters at a hotel in Kathmandu, the capital, and said, "I am devastated and grief-stricken because there are still employees we cannot reach," adding the above.
After being cut off at the accident site following the flood, A left the site with local employees on the 28th. Of the nine Koreans currently missing, six are Doosan Enerbility employees.
A said, "I am thinking only of supporting in ways that can help the search as much as possible within what I know," and added, "I will support so that the employees we cannot reach can return to their families as soon as possible."
Regarding the situation at the time, A explained, "When I heard about the accident and went outside, spray was blowing in all directions and I couldn't secure visibility," adding, "I couldn't even check the office building on the opposite camp side."
A added, "Only after three to four hours did the site become visible," and said, "It was impossible to know the exact situation at the scene at the time of the accident."
According to Doosan Group, Chairman Park Jeong-won of Doosan Group and Chairman Park Gee-won of Doosan Enerbility (vice chairman of Doosan Group), who entered Nepal the previous day, met with the rescued employees in Kathmandu to hear about the situation on the ground and discussed ways to search for the missing.
The two chiefs also visited Doosan Enerbility's task force set up in downtown Kathmandu and held a countermeasures meeting. At the meeting, they asked in effect to "find every available search method," and discussed cooperation plans for a swift search with the Korean government's joint rapid response team dispatched to the site.
