Momenta, a Chinese Autonomous Driving company that partners with Hyundai Motor, has teamed up with Chinese in-vehicle semiconductor company XHEART and QNX, a car software company under Canada's BlackBerry, to build a mass-production Autonomous Driving platform.
Momenta said on the 24th that, together with XHEART, it has adopted QNX's safety operating system (OS) as the operating system for its Autonomous Driving platform. The platform combines Momenta's Autonomous Driving solutions, XHEART's X7 automotive system-on-chip (SoC), and a safety OS based on QNX SDP 8.0.
The platform developed by the three companies was designed for mass production. The goal is to enable global automakers to apply Autonomous Driving technology to vehicles while meeting functional safety regulations in each country. The solution received ASIL D certification, the highest level of ISO 26262, the international standard for automotive functional safety, from a global certification body in Germany. They also said it can be used to develop vehicles that comply with UN R171, the European Union (EU) rule related to driver control assistance systems (DCAS).
Momenta emphasized that the collaboration established a safety foundation to support the overseas expansion of Autonomous Driving technology. Sun Huan, Momenta's executive vice president, said, "The mass-production solutions of the three companies meet global safety standards and will support complete vehicle manufacturers' entry into overseas markets."
Momenta is currently working with global complete vehicle manufacturers and mobility platforms to expand mass-production applications of Autonomous Driving technology. It is broadening its business beyond Autonomous Driving passenger cars to include unmanned delivery, unmanned freight transport, and robotaxis.
