Anthropic, the developer of the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot Claude, posted an operating profit in the second quarter for the first time since its founding.
Bloomberg reported on the 15th (local time) that Anthropic's second-quarter revenue topped $11.5 billion (about 16.2 trillion won), up 14.6 times from a year earlier.
That is more than double the $4.73 billion in revenue from the first quarter.
Profitability improved as well. The company's quarterly adjusted operating income turned positive for the first time. It did not disclose the detailed size of operating income.
As of May, Anthropic's annualized revenue was also estimated to surpass $47 billion (about 66 trillion won). That is 4.7 times last year's annual revenue ($10 billion).
Anthropic's rapid growth is seen as the result of focusing its capabilities on business-to-business (B2B) offerings such as coding solutions and work agents, and on products tailored for professional fields.
Anthropic expects this steep upward trajectory to continue for the next several years.
Reuters reported that Anthropic presented investors with a specific second target of $190 billion to $200 billion (about 268 trillion to 282 trillion won) in revenue for 2028.
Earlier, in June, Anthropic submitted confidential listing paperwork to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), beginning the initial public offering (IPO) process.
On Wall Street, Anthropic's corporate value is reportedly being calculated based on its earnings outlook. Some expect it to command a valuation of more than $2 trillion (about 2,820 trillion won).
However, there are significant risk factors on the path to listing. A series of external hacking incidents targeting AI models has emerged, and the Donald Trump administration is signaling a push to raise the level of regulatory policy.
Anthropic clashed with the U.S. Department of Defense over the scope of AI technology use and, after being designated a supply-chain risk company, is now in litigation with the government.
