The U.S. Department of State formed a dedicated task force (TF) to stop so-called "birth tourism" and canceled a large number of related foreign visas.
On the 12th local time, the State Department said it created a dedicated TF to uncover cases of birth tourism and has canceled more than 600 related foreign visas so far.
The crackdown targets foreigners who enter the United States to give birth in order to secure U.S. citizenship for their children.
In a press release, the State Department said, "As President Trump made clear, U.S. citizenship is not something that can be obtained by exploiting U.S. immigration law in a calculated way."
The move is an extension of the Trump administration's policy to restrict the current system that grants citizenship to children of foreign parents born in the United States.
On the 6th, President Trump signed an executive order barring entry to foreigners seeking to enter the United States for the purpose of birth tourism.
Earlier, shortly after winning reelection last year, President Trump issued an executive order restricting birthright citizenship itself, but the Supreme Court blocked it. He has since pursued policy by separately targeting birth tourism and restricting entry.
