U.S. Ambassador to Korea Michelle Park Steel visited Seoul National Cemetery on the 10th to honor Korean War veterans.
Steel posted photos on X (formerly Twitter) of offering incense at the cemetery and said, "It was an honor to lay a wreath at the National Cemetery with U.S. Forces Korea Commander Xavier Brunson and to honor the dedication and sacrifice of Korean War veterans. Their noble sacrifice remains at the heart of the steadfast U.S.-Korea alliance."
The U.S. Embassy in Korea also released a video capturing Steel's first week of activities after taking office.
Steel arrived on the 30th of last month and issued her arrival statement. On the 31st, she raised the flag with U.S. Marines, met with embassy staff to mark the start of her tenure, and visited the statue of King Sejong. Over the weekend, she visited Namdaemun Market to talk with merchants and attended a service at Youngnak Church.
On the 4th, she visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to meet with Minister Cho Hyun and began her official diplomatic schedule. She also met with Wi Sung-lac, director of the Office of National Security, the same day, and on the 5th met with U.S. Forces Korea Commander Xavier Brunson.
On the 6th, the day after meeting Commander Brunson, she wrote on X, "Yesterday I had a meaningful conversation with Commander Brunson about our shared mission to safeguard peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula," adding, "We will work closely together to further strengthen the combined defense posture and the steadfast U.S.-Korea alliance."
