U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on the 4th (local time) that an agreement to open the Strait of Hormuz with Iran will be reached within two days.
Minister Bessent appeared on CNBC that day and said, "Last week, President Donald Trump said he would take measures against Iran that could have become one of the largest military operations since World War II, and as a result we are now negotiating with Iran."
He added, "I believe an agreement could be reached today or tomorrow to open the strait and steer this dispute back to a normal phase," and said, "It will allow for free passage."
Minister Bessent also said, "The situation there was somewhat dangerous, but we are seeing quite a few ships leaving even now," and added, "Energy prices will stabilize again and it will be a positive development for the world."
