Reuters reported on the 4th (local time) that Iran is demanding control over ships entering the Strait of Hormuz and the right to monitor ships exiting it in talks with Oman on how to manage the strait.
According to the report, a source involved in the talks with Oman said, "It is unlikely that the Iranian government will change this position."
Earlier, Oman proposed managing two separate routes on the south and north sides of the Strait of Hormuz, and Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran's Foreign Affairs Vice Minister, said at the end of last month that he rejected Oman's proposal. The reason is that the proposal does not address Iran's security concerns.
Earlier, Esmail Baghaei, Iran's Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, said the previous day, "We are discussing a single route that allows two-way passage, not two or three separate routes," adding, "This middle route is intended for temporary use until a final decision is made on a permanent route."
