China's largest memory chipmaker, CXMT, is reportedly pursuing a plan to build an additional memory semiconductor plant in Beijing.
According to a Reuters report on the 3rd, CXMT is in talks with the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area to establish a new 12-inch memory semiconductor plant in the Yizhuang district in southeastern Beijing.
The outlet said CXMT is discussing financing options and has received investment interest from some state-owned corporations, adding that because the talks are in the early stages, the investment size and financing method could change.
CXMT is moving to expand facilities in succession to meet rising global demand for memory semiconductors. Reuters said CXMT is also pursuing new plant construction in Hefei, Anhui province, where its headquarters is located, and in Shanghai.
Some observers say that if the planned capacity expansion is realized, CXMT's monthly production capacity will rise to 600,000 wafers, double the current level. CXMT is known to produce 300,000 memory semiconductor wafers per month at three plants, including Hefei.
On the 27th of last month, CXMT ranked No. 1 by market capitalization on China's stock market upon listing, recording a first-day market cap of 3.28 trillion yuan (about 708 trillion won) on the STAR Market (the Shanghai Stock Exchange's science and technology board) transaction.
