U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will hold a summit.
U.S. political outlet Politico reported on the 27th (local time) that President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu are scheduled to meet at the White House on the 28th.
Prime Minister Netanyahu is said to have steadily pushed for a meeting with President Trump after Israel launched large-scale airstrikes against the United States and Iran in February.
Netanyahu reportedly issued a statement that day, saying that among various pending issues, "the Iran issue will be the top priority."
At present, President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu have revealed differences over additional military action amid a prolonged war and negotiations with Iran to end the war.
With Israel's general election at the end of Oct., Prime Minister Netanyahu needs to show coordination with the United States, while President Trump faces the task of ending the war before the midterm elections in Nov.
In fact, as domestic criticism in the United States of the Iran war grew, President Trump strongly criticized Israel for continuing airstrikes on Lebanon aimed at Hezbollah, a pro-Iran armed group.
Politico predicted that although the long-awaited meeting for Prime Minister Netanyahu will take place, the summit between the two leaders may do little to improve bilateral relations, which are already tense.
