After Ukraine carried out back-to-back drone attacks on Russia's munitions and oil facilities and the warehouses of logistics corporations, Russia moved to retaliate.
According to Reuters and CNBC on the 24th (local time), an energy facility near the northern Ukrainian city of Chernihiv was attacked that morning. About 150,000 residents experienced a blackout. The regional power distribution corporation is carrying out restoration work.
Russia appears to have launched attacks after President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine released the results achieved by the Ukrainian military. Zelensky said on social media that "the Ukrainian military struck one of the key munitions corporations in Russia's Kirov region," and he released video of a factory engulfed in flames.
Zelensky also said that oil facilities in Russia were struck and that operations targeting the logistics network supplying munitions and other materiel to the Russian military are underway. It appeared to refer to the Wildberries logistics warehouses, known as "Russia's Amazon." Local media reported that Wildberries warehouses in St. Petersburg were attacked that day.
As Ukraine's drone technology improves, long-range strikes are being carried out. The struck Kirov region is more than 1,300 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. St. Petersburg is also 1,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
