Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on the 22nd (local time) that it attacked two U.S. military bases in Jordan with missiles and drones, destroying military equipment and causing casualties.
In a statement the same day, the IRGC said it struck King Faisal Base and Prince Hassan Base as part of Operation "Nasr 2." It said a hangar preparing for the sortie of F-15 fighter jets was damaged, and eight brand-new MQ-9s, still in their packaging, were destroyed in a drone hangar. It added that two drones parked outdoors and two large helicopters were also severely damaged, and that attacks on troop quarters caused U.S. casualties.
The IRGC framed the attack as retaliation for U.S. airstrikes and warned that if U.S. attacks continue, it will launch operations causing greater damage. It again stressed its intent to retaliate further, saying that if aggression is not met with a response, war and negotiations will only repeat.
Reports also said that a missile fired by Iran the same day fell near Aqaba, a port city in southwestern Jordan, and explosions were heard in Israel's Eilat across the border. Some observers say that a direct missile strike on Israeli territory could spur Israel's entry into the war.
Meanwhile, as armed clashes between the United States and Iran entered the 12th day, Iran's Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz in the south was also reportedly hit by a U.S. missile strike. Iran's Tasnim News Agency reported that local authorities are investigating the target and the extent of the damage.
