U.S. President Donald Trump on the 16th (local time) said in a nationally televised address asserting election fraud in the 2020 presidential race that related matters were covered up, including not reporting to the president a report on China's election interference. He directed the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), the Ministry of Justice, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to investigate how related information was concealed.
Trump said at the White House in Washington that day, "Information the FBI obtained in 2020 but was buried by bureaucrats states that China's activities included attempts to produce illegal ballots for Joe Biden," relaying the claim. The White House currently has related information publicly posted under the title "Election Integrity."
He added that he also released related reports from the CIA and others stating that China not only tried to interfere in the results of the 2018 U.S. midterm elections and the 2020 presidential election, but also carried out anti-Trump activities targeting U.S. businesspeople and journalists.
In particular, Trump said, "Dozens of CIA and NSA (National Security Agency) reports related to China's election interference were excluded from the president's daily briefing," and claimed, "The related information was not conveyed to the president, Congress, or the public."
He added, "We will investigate how and why such critical information was hidden at the DNI, the Ministry of Justice, the FBI, and the CIA, and fire those involved in the cover-up," and said, "If appropriate, I will request criminal prosecution."
