Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang was reportedly at a drinking gathering in Tokyo with local corporations' representatives to build camaraderie. It comes a month after a "samgyeopsal meetup" with heads of Korean corporations.
According to the Nikkei on the 15th, Huang arrived in Tokyo that day, attended his company's event for developers, and in the evening went to an izakaya. The place is known as an izakaya specializing in yakiton (Japanese-style grilled pork skewers) near JR Kanda Station.
Executives from Japanese client corporations were said to be present. When Huang walked down the alley and entered the restaurant, attendees inside broke into applause, and Huang reportedly raised a glass himself and proposed a toast.
The Nikkei noted that it has become customary for Huang to share meals at local restaurants with key supply chain corporations' representatives. The analysis is that the aim is to strengthen ties with regional partners and demonstrate a strong will to cooperate.
Indeed, last month while visiting Korea, Huang had a "samgyeopsal meetup" at a barbecue restaurant near Hongik Univ. Station in Mapo District, Seoul, with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo, and Naver Chairman Lee Hae-jin.
In October of the previous year, he also held a "chimaek meetup" with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong and Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun.
At the same event that day, Huang emphasized the importance of cooperation, saying, "Japan, where our core partners are concentrated, is a very important partner for Nvidia."
