With tensions rising between the United States and Iran, Iranian authorities claimed on the 14th (local time) that U.S. forces carried out successive attacks on key southern coastal cities.
According to Iran's state-run IRNA, that afternoon key sites in Khuzestan Province, Hormozgan Province, and Bushehr Province along the southern Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz came under projectile attack.
State Governments authorities in southern Bushehr, which has a nuclear power plant, also said four areas in the provincial capital Bushehr city were hit by projectiles.
The deputy governor for political and security affairs of Bushehr Province said, "This afternoon, four locations in Bushehr city were struck by enemy projectiles," adding, "Today's attack is a continuation of the enemy's clear violation of the cease-fire and agreements."
Multiple projectiles, presumed to have been fired by U.S. forces, also fell in the western area of Bandar Abbas in Hormozgan Province, a military and commercial hub facing the Strait of Hormuz.
The State Governments of Hormozgan said, "We confirmed projectile debris around 1 p.m.," adding, "Specific details, including the extent of casualties and facility damage, will be announced soon."
Around the same time, Iran's southwestern Khuzestan Province also came under attack. The deputy governor for security affairs of Khuzestan said, "At about 1:25 p.m., a location in Abadan County was struck by a projectile fired by U.S. forces," and added, "Five minutes later, a projectile also fell near Mashahr." Abadan and Mashahr, near the borders with Iraq and Kuwait, are where Iran's key oil and chemical industrial facilities are concentrated.
