U.S. stocks in New York opened mixed on the 6th.
At 10:40 a.m. on the 6th at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), the blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average (Dow) fell 81.78 points, or 0.15%, from the prior session to 52,818.29. The Standard & Poor's (S&P) 500 rose 40.65 points, or 0.54%, to 7,523.89, and the Nasdaq composite gained 281.75 points, or 1.09%, to 26,114.43.
Semiconductor stocks, which had powered the market this year, fell last week but rebounded on the day.
Broadcom rose 4.81% on news it signed a long-term contract with Apple to develop and supply custom chips through 2031.
Memory chipmakers Western Digital and Seagate climbed 11.28% and 7.75%, respectively, and Micron Technology rose 4.42%.
ASML rose 5.02% after global investment research firm Bernstein set a price target of $2,300, more than 30% higher. Bernstein said it "reflects an unprecedented expansion of logic semiconductors and DRAM capacity driven by artificial intelligence."
International oil prices were slightly higher. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) for August 2026 delivery was up 0.42% from the previous session at $68.98 a barrel.
