Despite bad weather and sporadic lightning, the large-scale fireworks display for the 250th anniversary of the nation's founding went ahead as scheduled in Washington, D.C.
According to CNN on the 5th (local time), at the "Salute to America" event held late the previous night, fireworks continued for about 40 minutes. This year's event was notable for being vastly larger than the usual Independence Day fireworks in the United States.
Organizers launched about 850,000 fireworks from 10 locations across Washington, D.C., including the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, barges on the Potomac River, and West Potomac Park. The show may have set a Guinness World Record for the largest fireworks display ever.
U.S. President Donald Trump expressed satisfaction on his social media platform Truth Social, saying, "Best fireworks show, EVER!" Trump did not personally host the fireworks, but delivered a commemorative speech at "Salute to America," the centerpiece of the 250th anniversary celebration.
CNN reported that the expense for the fireworks was estimated at about $850,000 (13 billion won).
