U.S. President Donald Trump said the ruling Republican Party will hold a "midterm convention" (MIDTERM CONVENTION) in Dallas, Texas, on Sept. 10–11 ahead of the November midterm elections.
Trump said the same on the social media platform Truth Social on the 30th local time, calling it "Big news!" and "It will be fantastic."
U.S. party conventions are typically held in presidential election years to nominate candidates. They are not held ahead of midterm elections.
Trump also expressed anticipation, calling it "the first ever" and saying, "It has never been held before, and it will be a truly historic event."
Earlier, in an August post last year on Truth Social, Trump had urged the Republican Party to hold a midterm convention.
Trump said, "We will celebrate the remarkable success of Americans who changed our country through the return of a great America and America First policies."
He then cited tax-free tips, overtime, and social security benefits; strengthened borders; the safest communities; low prices and true affordability; more jobs; and U.S. energy dominance as key achievements.
He also said, "Crude oil prices are falling sharply even as we denuclearize Iran."
Trump added, "We are delivering on promises that politicians talked about for decades but never fulfilled."
He also said the convention "will be a rally like no other," adding, "We will celebrate our country, our achievements, and our bright future. America's golden age has only just begun."
