After the U.S. military launched another strike on Iran in retaliation for Iran's attacks on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, Iran warned it could suspend diplomatic procedures.
On the 28th (local time), according to Reuters, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement that it struck eight key U.S. military facilities with missiles and drones, including Kuwait's Al Salem Air Base and the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet base at Salman Port in Bahrain.
The IRGC said, "If the United States and other hostile forces carry out additional aggression in the Strait of Hormuz under any pretext, they will face devastating retaliation, even if the attacks target relatively less important objectives as on the previous night and tonight," adding, "If the United States continues to violate the cease-fire agreement between the two countries, we will suspend all diplomatic procedures in full."
Even after signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to end hostilities on the 17th of last month, the United States and Iran have repeatedly engaged in armed clashes over Iran's attacks on civilian ships in the Strait of Hormuz. On the 25th, after a civilian ship transiting the Strait of Hormuz came under attack by Iran, the United States struck Iranian military facilities in retaliation. On the 27th, when a tanker passing through the Strait of Hormuz was attacked again, it carried out additional strikes on Iranian military facilities.
On this day, the IRGC again emphasized its authority to manage the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC said, "Under the memorandum of understanding (MOU), Iran has the authority to manage transit in the Strait of Hormuz," adding, "From now on, we will respond more firmly than before to ships that violate the rules."
