A second attack on a civilian ship occurred after the United States and Iran agreed to a cease-fire. It was another clash nine days after the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to end the war on the 17th of this month (local time), following a confrontation that had already broken out.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) of the Royal Navy said a tanker was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz by an "unidentified projectile" on the 27th, the Associated Press reported. There were no reported casualties among the tanker's crew.
This civilian ship attack is the second since the United States and Iran signed the end-of-war MOU. Iran had attacked a container ship that was trying to leave the Persian Gulf on the 25th. In response, the United States carried out airstrikes on Iran's missile and drone bases, and Iran struck U.S. military facilities in the Middle East in retaliation.
The United States and Iran are holding follow-up talks after the cease-fire agreement. But a series of recent military clashes has heightened a sense of crisis.
