An Iranian delegation arrived in Switzerland to attend follow-up talks after a cease-fire agreement with the United States.
According to AFP on the 20th (local time), the Swiss Foreign Ministry said on X (formerly Twitter) that it "welcomes the arrival of the Iranian delegation in Switzerland." The ministry said the visit is part of follow-up implementation procedures for a memorandum of understanding (MOU) recently concluded by the United States and Iran.
Iran's state news agency IRNA also reported that the Iranian delegation arrived in Switzerland ahead of the talks. On the U.S. side, Vice President JD Vance was said to have departed for Switzerland to attend the negotiations.
Pakistan, which has mediated cease-fire talks between the two countries, also began preparations for the meeting. The Pakistani government said a face-to-face meeting between the United States and Iran is scheduled to be held in Switzerland on the 21st, and noted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who has served as mediator, departed for Switzerland that day.
The meeting is the first official follow-up negotiation since the United States and Iran reached a cease-fire agreement. The two sides are expected to focus on future operation plans for the nuclear development program and on easing U.S. sanctions on Iran.
The two countries had initially planned to hold working-level talks in Switzerland immediately after the memorandum of understanding was signed, but the schedule was postponed once as fighting continued in Lebanon between Israel and Hezbollah, a pro-Iranian armed faction.
