As Korea faced Mexico in the second match of Group A in the 2026 World Cup group stage on the morning of the 19th, Korean residents in Beijing, China, also kept up their enthusiastic support.
According to the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in China, a group cheering event for the World Cup qualifying match was held at 9 a.m. local time at the main auditorium of the POSCO Center in Wangjing (望京), Beijing. About 300 people, including Korean compatriots, students, and businesspeople living in Beijing and nearby areas—such as the Beijing Korean Association, the Korean Chamber of Commerce in China, and the Federation of Korean Students in Beijing—attended.
Many young people were also invited, including members of the embassy's public diplomacy supporters group of Chinese youth, the "Korea-China Friendship Guardian Angels," as well as Chinese college students who studied in Korea, to cheer together for the Korea national team.
Attendees beat red clapper sticks and chanted "Daehanminguk," and they stood to cheer whenever a scoring chance emerged. The match ended in a loss for Korea, but attendees offered generous applause even after the final whistle.
Ambassador to China Noh Jae-heon said, "The Korea national team was outstanding to the end," adding, "Many Korean residents gathered to wish for the team's victory, and Chinese people who love Korea and soccer joined the cheering, adding special meaning to Korea-China friendship."
