The United States and Iran are expected to hold a signing ceremony for a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to end the war on the 19th (local time) in Geneva, Switzerland, and then immediately begin the first round of working-level talks.
On the 15th, the U.S. online outlet Axios reported that U.S. Vice President JD Vance, Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, President Donald Trump's eldest son-in-law Jared Kushner, and Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi are scheduled to attend the working-level talks.
Officials from Pakistan and Qatar, which have participated as mediators during the negotiations, are also said to attend to discuss the next steps.
CNBC also reported, citing Iranian state media, that Minister Araqchi said the first round of working-level talks is expected to take place in Switzerland on the 19th.
The two countries announced agreement on the end-of-war MOU the day before and completed electronic signatures, and they plan to hold a formal signing ceremony on the 19th in Geneva, Switzerland. They will then continue follow-up negotiations for 60 days to discuss Iran's nuclear issue and more.
Although the MOU's details have not yet been disclosed, explanations from both sides indicate it includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz and lifting the U.S. blockade against Iran.
In subsequent talks, fierce back-and-forth is expected over Iran's nuclear issue, whether to impose transit fees for the Strait of Hormuz, how to operate the strait, the release of Iran's frozen assets and easing of sanctions.
