U.S. President Donald Trump said on the 14th (local time) that an agreement with Iran has been finalized, declaring he approved the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and the lifting of the U.S. Navy blockade.
Trump said on the social media platform Truth Social that day, "The agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all."
He added, "I fully approve the toll-free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and at the same time approve the immediate lifting of the United States Navy blockade," and said, "Ships of the world, start your engines. Let the oil flow."
That day, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also said on the social platform X that the United States and Iran had reached a peace agreement and that an official signing ceremony would be held in Switzerland on the 19th.
Sharif said the mediating countries would arrange a preliminary meeting this week to implement the agreement and, through it, proceed with technical talks and preparations for the official signing ceremony. Pakistan has long mediated negotiations between the United States and Iran.
He assessed that the United States and Iran had shown a willingness for a diplomatic solution and expressed thanks to Qatar for its support in the mediation process. He also said the leadership of Saudi Arabia and Türkiye made major contributions to reaching the agreement.
