Iran's Foreign Ministry said on the 12th (local time) that agencies are coordinating internally on whether to approve a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to end hostilities with the United States.
On the day, Esmail Baghaei, Spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry, told Mehr News Agency that approval of the provisional agreement (memorandum of understanding) is at the domestic internal coordination stage and a final decision has not yet been made. He added that the relevant state institutions must reach conclusions on each and every provision of the agreement and on all provisional understandings.
On the timing and venue of a memorandum of understanding signing ceremony, he said any agreement must yield a final result before it can be officially announced, adding that once a final result emerges, it will be announced immediately. He also said that specific matters such as the method of signing the memorandum will be discussed at the next stage, and that what has been raised so far on this issue is largely speculative reporting by the media.
Pars News Agency, a hard-line Iranian outlet, cited a source familiar with the negotiating team with the United States and reported that claims by some Western media and Trump that the memorandum of understanding signing ceremony will be held in Geneva on Sunday (the 14th) are not true at all. It added that, fundamentally, Iran's review and decision-making process on the agreement has not yet concluded.
