There was a foreign media report that the United States and Iran are likely to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) related to ending the war as early as on the 14th (local time) in Geneva, Switzerland.
Bloomberg News reported on the 11th, citing a Group of Seven (G7) official who requested anonymity, that a senior Iranian official said there is a high likelihood a deal related to ending the war with the United States will be reached.
Geneva, Switzerland, is being mentioned as the most likely venue for the signing of the end-of-war agreement. Coincidentally, the G7 summit will be held from Jun. 15 to 17 in the French resort town of Evian-les-Bains. It is not far from Geneva. U.S. President Donald Trump is also scheduled to attend the G7 summit.
Earlier, U.S. outlet Axios reported that signs were spotted in Geneva that the United States is preparing an event to reach a deal with Iran. Axios said four U.S. Air Force C-17 transport planes had left for Europe to deliver equipment for a potential signing ceremony between the United States and Iran, adding that Geneva is a strong candidate for the signing venue.
However, it remains uncertain whether the United States and Iran will actually sit down at the negotiating table. That is because it is unclear whether Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, has approved the draft agreement.
Another G7 official also said, "This deal is more likely to be concluded in the form of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) than a final agreement."
Media in the United States and Iran also expect the two countries to first extend the cease-fire through an MOU signing, open the Strait of Hormuz on Iran's side, and have the United States end its maritime blockade of Iran. The analysis is that they will pursue a kind of multistage agreement that resolves complex issues such as the nuclear program in subsequent negotiations.
