As operations at Kuwait International Airport were suspended after Iran's airstrike, the United States strongly condemned Iran, saying it deliberately attacked a civilian airport. It also rebutted Iran's claim that "the airport damage occurred during the U.S. missile interception process," calling it "a complete lie."
The U.S. Central Command, which oversees U.S. forces in the Middle East, said on the 3rd (local time) on X (formerly Twitter), "Iran used drones to attack Kuwait International Airport," adding, "This is a deliberate and planned attack that cannot be justified for any reason."
In particular, Central Command dismissed Iran's claim that "it did not directly attack the passenger terminal at Kuwait International Airport and the damage was due to a U.S. missile interceptor," saying, "This is entirely untrue."
Earlier, the semi-official Iranian outlet Tasnim News Agency, citing the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, claimed, "Iran did not carry out any attack toward Kuwait International Airport." However, the United States again emphasized that Iran is responsible for the airport damage.
The United States also denied the claim that Iran targeted a U.S. Navy vessel in the Gulf of Oman. Central Command said, "Iran claims that a U.S. destroyer was the target, but this is also false," adding, "U.S. military vessels and aviation asset in the region are conducting operations safely without any interference."
Earlier, Reuters, citing Iranian state media, reported that Iran had targeted a U.S. warship deployed in the Gulf of Oman that performs command-and-control functions among U.S. ships.
