Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed it attacked U.S. military bases in Bahrain and Kuwait, but the United States denied this and said all of Iran's attacks failed.
On the 2nd (local time), according to Reuters and Agence France-Presse (AFP), the Revolutionary Guard claimed through state media that it struck the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet base in Bahrain and a U.S. Air Force base in Kuwait with missiles and drones.
However, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees U.S. military operations in the Middle East, immediately pushed back. On X (formerly Twitter), Central Command said, "Claims that Iran struck the U.S. 5th Fleet headquarters in Bahrain and U.S. air bases in the region are false," adding, "All Iranian attacks aimed at U.S. forces failed."
It added, "U.S. forces remain vigilant and are prepared to respond to Iran's unwarranted attacks."
The United States said it intercepted three missiles fired by Iran that day in coordination with Bahrain. It also said Iranian missiles launched toward Kuwait appeared to have crashed before reaching their targets or broken up midflight.
Central Command said it also shot down three attack drones that Iran launched at civilian vessels sailing normally in regional waters.
The United States announced it carried out an airstrike on Iran's Qeshm Island in response to Iran's attacks.
Central Command said the strike targeted an "Iranian military ground control station" on Qeshm Island, and that there were no U.S. casualties.
Qeshm Island is Iran's largest island, located in the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for oil and gas shipments in the Gulf region.
