The White House on the 17th (local time) released a fact sheet on the results of the U.S.-China summit. Key points included confirmation of the two countries' shared goal of "North Korea's denuclearization" and China's plan to purchase large quantities of U.S. agricultural products.
According to the fact sheet, U.S. President Donald Trump and China's President Xi Jinping built consensus on security issues such as the Iran war and the Korean Peninsula during the summit.
First, the two leaders agreed that Iran's possession of nuclear weapons cannot be tolerated. Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, they called for the reopening of the strait and also agreed that no entity should impose tolls on passage through it.
The two leaders also reaffirmed the shared goal of North Korea's denuclearization. In the White House fact sheet, aside from the Iran war, currently the most pressing issue, the North Korean nuclear issue was effectively the only security topic mentioned.
The White House highlighted China's decision to make additional purchases of U.S. agricultural products as a major achievement. According to the fact sheet, China agreed to purchase at least $17 billion (about 2.55 trillion won) in U.S. agricultural products annually through 2028. The year 2028 is effectively the final year of President Trump's second term, which runs through Jan. 20, 2029.
China also agreed to renew export approvals for more than 400 U.S. beef production facilities and to work with U.S. regulators to lift various restrictions on U.S. beef facilities.
In addition, China agreed to purchase 200 Boeing aircraft from the United States and to resume imports of poultry from certain U.S. states recognized as free of highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI).
On rare earths and critical minerals, key resources for advanced industries, the document included only a general statement that "China will address U.S. concerns related to supply chain shortages." Yttrium, scandium, neodymium and indium were cited as examples.
The two countries also agreed to establish a trade committee and an investment committee. The White House said the trade committee will discuss trade issues focusing on non-sensitive items.
The White House said, "President Trump and President Xi agreed that the United States and China should build a constructive relationship that contributes to strategic stability based on fairness and reciprocity," and added, "President Trump secured comprehensive commitments that will create high-wage jobs and open new markets for U.S. products."
