A fire broke out at the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant complex in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), on the 17th local time after an attack by one drone, the Abu Dhabi Government Media Office said.
The media office said, "An emergency response was carried out after a fire caused by a drone attack occurred at a generator located outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah nuclear power plant in the Al Dhafra region."
It added that, so far, no casualties from the fire have been reported and radiation safety levels were confirmed to be unaffected. The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) said all core systems at the plant are operating normally.
UAE authorities did not mention who carried out the drone attack.
The Barakah plant is the Middle East's first commercial nuclear power station, built in Abu Dhabi by exporting the next-generation reactor design (APR1400) developed with the Korea Electric Power Corporation's own technology. After the contract in 2009, all four units went into full operation in April 2024 and now produce about 25% of the UAE's total electricity demand.
