A bulk carrier sailing in waters near Qatar was hit by an unidentified projectile.
According to Reuters on the 10th (local time), the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said it received a report that a bulk carrier under way about 23 nautical miles (about 43 kilometers) northeast of Doha, Qatar, was struck by an unidentified projectile.
The UKMTO said a small fire broke out on the bulk carrier but has been extinguished, and there were no casualties.
According to the Times of Israel, local authorities are investigating the origin of the projectile. They also advised ships transiting the area to heighten vigilance and sail with caution.
The Times of Israel said the incident occurred amid rising tensions between the United States and Iran in the Gulf region and noted that it happened as the United States and Israel agreed to a cease-fire in the war with Iran.
The United States and Iran are currently continuing negotiations on a memorandum of understanding (MOU) over ending the war and nuclear issues. However, it has not yet been confirmed whether Iran has responded to the U.S.-proposed MOU on ending the war.
