Esmaeil Baghaei, Iran Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, said on the 6th (local time) via Iran's semi-official ISNA news agency that Tehran is reviewing a U.S. proposal to end the war.
Spokesperson Baghaei said in an interview with ISNA that "Iran is still reviewing the U.S. plans and proposals and will convey them to Pakistan after compiling Iran's position."
ISNA reported, "It is necessary to note that in recent days U.S. media have been spreading speculation and fake news to create an atmosphere favorable to Trump and the United States, in an attempt to conceal the failure of the U.S. president's 'Project Freedom.'"
Regarding the terms reported by the U.S. outlet Axios, ISNA pointed out that "they included excessive and unrealistic proposals that our authorities recently rejected strongly."
It added, "Some parts of the Axios report are for media speculation and setting the tone," and said, "We have obtained credible information that what the Iranian negotiating team is discussing is the issue of 'ending the war,' and the nuclear issue is not on the table at this stage of the talks."
This draws a line from speculation that the United States and Iran are close to concluding an end-of-war agreement, drawing attention.
Earlier, Axios reported that the United States and Iran were on the verge of signing a one-page memorandum of understanding (MOU) to end the war and resolve the nuclear issue.
The MOU is said to include a temporary halt (moratorium) to Iran's uranium enrichment, the lifting of U.S. sanctions and release of frozen funds targeting Iran, and the phased lifting of transit restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz and the maritime blockade.
The White House is reportedly waiting for Iran to respond within 48 hours on the key sticking points.
