U.S. President Donald Trump warned that if Iran does not agree, the bombing could be carried out at a higher intensity than before.
On the 6th (local time), President Trump said on the social media platform Truth Social, "If they (Iran) do not agree, the bombing will begin, and sadly it will be at a much higher level and intensity than before."
This is seen as keeping open the possibility of resuming airstrikes on Iran while applying pressure for an agreement on opening the Strait of Hormuz and denuclearization.
Trump also said that if Iran agrees, the military operation against Iran, the "Grand Fury" operation, could also be ended. He further argued that because of the U.S. maritime blockade, the Strait of Hormuz would be open to everyone, not just Iran.
There is also speculation that negotiations between the United States and Iran have reached the final stage. On the same day, the U.S. online outlet Axios reported that the United States and Iran were close to signing a one-page memorandum of understanding (MOU).
The MOU is said to include provisions for a temporary moratorium on Iran's uranium enrichment, the lifting of U.S. sanctions against Iran, Iran's restrictions on passage through the Strait of Hormuz, and the gradual lifting of the U.S. maritime blockade against Iran.
